Action ALERT: Ohio Senate Committee Moves to Advance Gun-Control Bill

It’s another week that our General Assembly is meeting in Columbus, and another week Republicans are moving gun-control bills!

As you know, Republican under State and Local Government Committee Chairwoman Marlene Anielski have been moving Kasich’s House gun-control bill, HB585 by Mike Henne.

This week, however, it’s the Republicans in the Senate Government Oversight and Reform Committee that are advancing Governor Kasich’s Senate gun-control, SB288 (and other gun-control bills).

Gun owners didn’t elect these “pro-gun majorities” to get treated like this.

It’s unacceptable for any Republican in our General Assembly to violate their oaths of office and advance Bloomberg’s gun-control bills.

And that’s why we can’t stop – not even for a minute – putting the pressure on these committee members to tell them to stop, block and kill any advancement of these attacks.

So don’t delay – please click the image below to email the Senate Government Oversight Committee a pre-written email demanding they put the brakes on Kasich’s gun-control right away!

As you’ll see, we’ve addressed it to the members and pre-written the message for you.

All you need to do is sign your name and press send.

But as you know, SB288 would destroy due process for gun owners by creating secret “star-chamber” gun-confiscation hearings that would allow a gun owner to be stripped of his Second Amendment Rights without even being able to offer a defense!

I don’t need to tell you how dangerous a system like this would be for gun owners being targeted by a crazy “ex” looking to gin up support for child custody court, or how a judge in divorce court would react to your ex presenting a previous “star-chamber order” as “evidence.”

And nor do I need to explain to you how destroying our Second, Fourth, Fifth and Fourteenth Amendment rights won’t stop a single criminal from committing a crime.

Quite frankly, killers are never stopped by background checks.

Under the Obama administration, over 800,000 NICS denials were issued, yet less than 45 per year were ever even recommended for prosecution, let alone convicted.

In other words, criminals know there isn’t a penalty for trying to obtain a gun through legal channels – they know they’re never prosecuted.

But anti-gunners are hell-bent to expand this system because they know they’ll be able to add records to this system and implement gun-control by declaration rather than adjudication, just like they’re already doing.

Gun Owners of America has tracked over 260,000 veterans who have had their names added to this system and had their Second Amendment Rights stripped away.

260,000!

No due process. No notification. No day in court. Nothing.

That’s what the bills Republican are advancing in Wednesday’s committee will do, and that’s why these bills must be stopped.

So please email the members of the Senate Government Oversight and Reform Committee and tell them to block and vote NO on SB288!

(NOTE: If your email browser isn’t compatible with the pre-written message embedded in the links, please scroll down for the addresses, subject line and email message for you to copy and paste manually. Sorry for this inconvenience!)

Please also consider chipping in just $15 or $20 to help us pressure these committees to kill these bills.

The in-district targeted programs we run to try to defeat these bills cost us resources every time we mount up a defense, and your contributions go to help fund that.

Regardless of whether or not you can contribute, please email the committee members and tell them to block and vote NO on these bills, as that’s most important.

For Freedom,

Chris Dorr, Executive Director
Ohio Gun Owners

P.S. The Senate Government Oversight and Reform Committee needs to hear from you right away!

Wednesday morning (the 6th of June) they will be hearing Governor Kasich’s gun-control omnibus bill, advancing it through the process so that they’re ready for floor votes.

To find out details about the bill, please read the email above.

When you’re finished, please click the image below to send pre-written emails to the committee!

And if you could, please chip in $15 or $20 to help us pressure these committees to kill these bills!

subject line: Publicly OPPOSE, Block and Vote NO on SB288, SB278

email bodyDear Members of the Senate Government Oversight and Reform Committee,

As an Ohio gun owner, Senate Bills 288 and 278 are egregious, long-term attacks on our Second Amendment Rights that will not stop violent criminals.

I’m emailing the members of this committee to urge you to publicly oppose, block in committee and vote NO on both of these pieces of legislation.

Violent criminals willing to use a firearm in the commission of a crime couldn’t care less about additional laws preventing them from doing so.

To see what a failure expanding the Federal gun owner database is at stopping crime, all one needs to do is look at Chicago, the state of California or even Maryland.

In fact, killings like Vegas, Orlando, Newtown, Aurora, Charleston, Chattanooga, Fort Hood, San Bernardino and the Maryland high-school shooting prove just what a failure this system is at stopping shooters.

Another attack on our gun rights that gun owners are monitoring for our election decisions is the creation of “ex parte” gun confiscation hearings in these bills.

Protection orders aren’t worth the paper they’re written on to a violent criminal – and everyone knows it.

Everybody also knows that destroying our Second, Fourth, Fifth and Fourteenth Amendment Rights isn’t going to make anyone safer, either.

What this committee SHOULD be considering is Stand-Your-Ground law.

What this committee SHOULD be considering are ways to urge school districts to arm teachers, staff and qualified adults with firearms so they can shoot back and stop a killer.

But since this committee isn’t, I’m urging you to publicly oppose, block, refuse to allow consent, call for a record vote and vote NO on both SB288 and SB278.

Ohio Gun Owners is watching your actions closely in order to report the results to me and thousands of gun owners so we can make better decisions in the coming elections.

Please publicly oppose, block and vote NO on SB288 and SB278.
