Why “Fix NICS” is bad for gun owners

Yesterday Ohio Gun Owners joined with 8 other state gun rights organizations across the country in opposing the addition of HR.4477 to HR.38.

You can see our press release below.

HR.38 is what most gun owners consider to be a major expansion of gun rights and would allow interstate reciprocity for carry permit holders.

For example, if you’ve got an Ohio permit, you would be able to carry in Chicago or New York!

But then along came HR.4477, the Feinstein/Pelosi-backed “Fix NICS” Act.

HR.4477 is a massive expansion of the Federal NICS gun owner database, commonly known as the NICS background check system

Widely panned as a system that prohibits madmen from getting guns, the NICS system has proven to be an abysmal failure.

As a matter of fact, most of America’s worst mass shootings happened after the killer obtained their guns through a background check.

Orlando, Chattanooga, Charleston, Fort Hood, Aurora, the Gabby Giffords shooting and even the Las Vegas concert killings all happened with guns that were bought legally!

Perhaps the most infamous shooting of all, the Sandy Hook shooting in Newtown, Connecticut back in 2012, was committed after background checks.

In that case, Adam Lanza simply stole the firearms from his mother – who had bought them legally – and killed her first before going to the school to execute his killing spree.

And for further proof that background checks don’t work, all one has to do is look at Chicago.

Chicago has some of the worst violent crime in America and some of the strictest gun-control laws as well.

Chicago criminals and gang-bangers know they can’t pass a background check, so they steal guns or get their friends to buy them for them – easily thwarting the background check system.

But far worse than being incapable of accomplishing its stated goal, the NICS background check system is a database of every lawful gun purchaser in America.

That is why we’ve witnessed Congress’ most anti-gun politicians sign on as co-sponsors of this bill – it reads like a nightmare of America’s worst anti-gun politicians:

Dianne Feinstein (D-California)
Chuck Schumer (D-New York)
Pat Toomey (author of Manchin Toomey gun-control of 2013)
Dick Durbin (D-Illinois)
Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut)
Chris Murphy (D-Connecticut)
Amy Klobuchar (D-Minnesota)

Chris Murphy, probably the second worst anti-gun politician in the Senate (Feinstein #1), said the “Fix NICS Act” is the biggest gun-control bill since Manchin-Toomey in 2013.

The reason why they are all so excited about it is because it will over time steadily grow into the biggest database of gun owners in American history.

Fix NICS spends millions in tax-dollars to entice states to dump countless state databases into the Federal NICS database.

By doing this, it lays the foundations that anti-gunners need to implement gun-control administratively rather than through passing legislation.

You see, when they try to pass laws they know they face mobilized gun-owners like you and me who will hold politicians accountable.

But if they can dupe Congressional Republicans into building them a massive registry of gun-owners, all they need to do is bide their time and wait until another Obama administration is sworn into office before getting to work.

Then they can begin expanding what the NICS system is already doing – stripping away 2nd Amendment rights via declaration rather than adjudication.

Using the NICS system, anti-gun bureaucrats have long since targeted veterans for gun-control.

In fact, Gun Owners of America has tracked over 260,000 veterans who have had their 2nd Amendment rights taken away because they simply had their names added to the NICS system.

Further expanding the NICS system would enable them to administratively change the definition of “prohibited persons,” thus targeting the 2nd Amendment rights of many more “classes” of citizens.

That’s why so many anti-gunners are supporting, cosponsoring and voting for this legislation.

They know that their best chance at getting Republicans to expand this database for them is by attaching it to National Reciprocity, a bill they can’t stop anyway!

And that’s precisely why Ohio Gun Owners issued our press-release yesterday.

Gun owners don’t do the hard work of electing “pro-gun” majorities to get treated like this.

We don’t need to swallow a poison pill just to advance our gun rights.

That’s why we issued our press release yesterday (found below) and why we are so opposed to adding HR. 4477 to HR.38.

And that’s where you can come in.

HR.38, which now includes HR.4477, has passed the House and has been sent to the Senate.

The Senate is our best chance to STOP the Fics NICS legislation, so I’m asking you to do two things:

➤➤First, call US Senators Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown at the contact information below and tell them to vote AGAINST Fix NICS

Demand that they stop playing the Washington Swamp game and SEPARATE these two bills and vote on them individually!

Senator Rob Portman
(614) 469-6774

Senator Sherrod Brown
(614) 469-2083

And don’t let them lie to you about what the NICS system really is.

Many politicians try to claim that the NICS system is only a list of people prohibited by law from purchasing a gun, like felons.

But in 2014, anti-gunners in the Connecticut media threatened to use the NICS database to find out which Connecticut gun owners had not registered their AR15’s with the state!

Had the state police acted on those demands, Connecticut gun owners would’ve been forced with either confiscation of their firearms or faced class D felony charges, losing their gun rights for life!

The radical leftists like Dianne Feinstein and Chuck Schumer in Washington are signed on as cosponsors to Fix NICS because they know it is a database of gun owners that they can and will use against us down the road when they get a chance.

Don’t let Portman or Brown fool you.

So please make your calls to Senators Portman and Brown right away.

➤➤ Second, please consider making a contribution to Ohio Gun Owners

If you’re already a member, we thank you for your support!

Please also consider making an extra contribution to help our efforts at identifying and mobilizing even more gun owners from across Ohio to our fight for the 2nd Amendment!

And if you are not already a member of Ohio Gun Owners by enjoy being updated and involved, we urge you to become a member today!

It is only through grassroots support like you provide that we can be effective as an organization.

If you’re able to join with us, we’d love to have you!

But either way, please make your calls today, as that’s most important.

For Freedom,

Chris Dorr
Director, Ohio Gun Owners

P.S. Feinstein/Pelosi’s “Fix NICS” gun-control bill (HR.4477) has been added to the National Reciprocity bill (HR.38) and passed through the US House!

Massively increasing the size and scope of the NICS national gun-owner database makes gun-owners easy targets the day another Obama administration gets into office!

Trying to sneak through gun-control by attaching it to National Reciprocity is a disaster waiting to happen sometime down the road.

That’s why we’re urging all of our members and supporters to contact Senators Portman and Brown using the contact information above.

Your message is clear: strip HR.4477 OUT of HR.38 and ONLY vote on National Reciprocity.

Please make your calls today!

Nine State Gun Rights Organizations Oppose National Reciprocity in Its Current Form!

On election night in 2016, gun owners saw their dreams come true as Hillary Clinton was defeated and President Trump was elected, thanks in no small measure to the tireless efforts of grassroots gun owners.

After eight years of fighting with President Obama’s Administration to defend our gun rights, many gun owners assumed that 2017-2020 would be our chance to go on the offense in Washington D.C.

And that is why the membership and leadership of the undersigned organizations are outraged about the recent merger of National Reciprocity legislation with Senator Diane Feinstein’s ‘Fix-NICS’ gun control legislation!

In it’s current form, we absolutely oppose HR 38.

More, we are calling upon our membership to contact their Senators and demand they oppose any gun bill that contains language being pushed by Senators’ Feinstein, Murphy, Schumer and others to ‘Fix-NICS,’ which is nothing more than a massive federal gun registry in the making.

NICS didn’t stop mass shooters in Orlando, FL, Ft. Hood, TX., Las Vegas, NV., Charleston, SC., and many others and expanding NICS will be no more successful.

But Senator Feinstein isn’t worried about that. She’s simply using the recent tragedies in Las Vegas and Texas to attempt to create the largest federal gun database this country has ever seen.

But she could never accomplish this on her own.

Spineless Congressional leaders like Speaker Paul Ryan, House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte, Senate Judiciary Chairman Charles Grassley and others have assisted Senator Feinstein in working to pass this gun control bill, a bill she couldn’t even pass under the Obama Administration.

Shame on them all.

The same goes for the National Rifle Association who have been working behind the scenes to orchestrate this entire thing.

At a time when gun owners needed them most, and trusted them to fight to expand our gun rights and stop Senator Feinstein and her allies, the National Rifle Association choked yet again.

Sadly, grassroots gun owners aren’t even surprised anymore after the National Rifle Association also called for a ban on ‘bump stocks’ via ATF administrative rules, in another feckless action trying to placate the D.C. Swamp.

Besides helping to enact bad policy, the National Rifle Association’s actions are just bad politics, as many anti-gun Democratic and weak-kneed Republican congressman can and will use this vote for political cover for years to come.

To reiterate, the undersigned organizations consider a “Yes” vote on HR38 as a vote in support of gun-control and will relay that to our members.

Thanks to state level gun rights organizations and social media, grassroots gun owners have never been more able to ‘look behind the curtain’ and see exactly how their gun rights are being betrayed by weak Republicans and the National Rifle Association.

To those gun owners who are angry about this betrayal, contact your Senators immediately, as this fight now moves to the Senate.

Then join a state and federal gun rights organization that won’t betray you.

If the gun rights organization in your state is hanging their head in guilty silence, and is too afraid to call this bill out for what it is, start a group of your own.
