Senator Chris Murphy is pushing an amendment to raise the federal tax on suppressors and other NFA items from $200 to a staggering $4,709. This is not a safety proposal, it’s a calculated attempt to price everyday Americans out of lawful ownership.
Suppressors and short-barreled rifles already face background checks, registration, and federal approval. A $4,709 tax won’t make anyone safer, it will simply punish law-abiding citizens and hand a future Democrat Administration another tool to shut down access.
If this tax passes, it sets a precedent for ever-higher fees and taxes on other firearms and accessories. Today $4,709; tomorrow a price so high only the wealthy can exercise rights meant for all Americans.
We urge your Senators to vote NO on any amendment or bill that includes this tax increase, to defend the Constitution, and to support full repeal of the NFA rather than price-tagging Americans’ rights.
