Cynthia Abrams: This Politician Is Blocking Your Gun Bills

Wed, Feb 18, 2026

This is an urgent Ohio Gun Owners bulletin

Right now, the second biggest obstacle standing between you and pro-gun progress in Columbus is the Chairwoman of the House Public Safety Committee: Cynthia (Cindy) Abrams.

➜ ➜   HB382, the Second Amendment Protection Act (SAPA), would stop Ohio law enforcement from enforcing unconstitutional federal gun control. More than half of the Ohio House Republican caucus has cosponsored this bill.
➜ ➜   HB495, the Freedom to Carry Act, expands your right to carry any legal weapon in public or in your vehicle.
➜ ➜   HB498, the Ohio Self-Defense Act, strengthens legal protections for law-abiding citizens who defend themselves or their families.

All three of these bills have been sitting dead in Abrams’ committee for months with no no sponsor testimony, no hearings, and no movement.

We are well past the halfway point of the 136th General Assembly.

And Cynthia Abrams answers exclusively to Speaker Matt Huffman. She was appointed to that chairmanship. She serves at his pleasure.

Last General Assembly, during a closed-door caucus meeting on SAPA, Abrams stood up and flat-out lied what the bill would do.

She wasn’t making an innocent mistake, she was doing what Cynthia Abrams always does: running political cover for the gun-control lobby.

Cynthia has positioned herself as a loyal lieutenant for Ohio’s gun-control organizations, including the Ohio Fraternal Order of Police and the Buckeye State Sheriffs’ Association.

It’s time for OGO Nation to zero in.

Please stop what you are doing right now and take a moment to contact her directly.

  1. Email Rep. Cynthia Abrams. You can email her here.
  2. Call her legislative office. Her legislative line is (614) 466-9091.
  3. Contact her personally. Her direct line is (513) 266-2599. We are positive she’d love to hear from voters/constituents directly, as evidenced by the fact that she campaigned on being “a strong voice for my constituents.” Please be as polite as possible, but firm.

Suggested Text Message or Call Script:

Cynthia, Ohio Gun Owners has brought it to my attention that you have not done your job as committee chair of the Public Safety Committee by refusing to hold a single hearing on HB382, HB495 or HB498. This is unacceptable behavior, as it is the exact same action a gun-grabbing Democrat would do if they chaired the Ohio House Public Safety Committee.

Demand that she stop shilling for the gun-control lobby and immediately advance HB382, HB495 and HB498 without delay.

Be firm. Be somewhat polite (she surely has not returned the favor, and is well known amongst her colleagues to have a mouth that would make any sailor blush like a rosebush).

But be relentless.

For now, focus your political efforts on Representative Cynthia Abrams.

Cynthia Abrams must move these bills.

For Freedom,

Chris Dorr, Director
Ohio Gun Owners
