On June 10, 2026, Representative John led the vote against the Freedom to Carry Act. It went down 75 to 21. (Ohio House Journal, June 10, 2026, page 2236.)

The goal of the Freedom to Carry Act was simple: let law-abiding Ohioans carry the legal firearm they choose, not just a handgun. Under it, Ohio’s concealed handgun license would have become a concealed weapons license, and anyone allowed to carry concealed, with or without a license, could carry any gun Ohio and federal law allow them to have, starting at age 18 instead of 21. And it would have let you keep a loaded firearm, including a rifle or shotgun, in your vehicle, and taken suppressors and short barreled rifles and shotguns off Ohio’s dangerous ordnance list.

With that vote, Representative John stabbed Ohio gun owners in the back.

That one vote on the Freedom to Carry Act cost you:

  • A concealed weapons license to carry any lawful weapon
  • Permitless carry at 18, not 21
  • Rifles and shotguns in your vehicle
  • Suppressors, short barreled rifles and short barreled shotguns off Ohio’s dangerous ordnance list

Check the record before you vote on or before November 3. I’ll have more for you this week.
