Before Amy Acton Gets Crowned: Pass the Freedom to Carry Act

Wed, Nov 4, 2026

Amy Acton is sworn in as Ohio governor on January 11, but until then Mike DeWine is still governor and Republicans still hold the Statehouse supermajority. Here is why lame duck is our window to pass the Freedom to Carry Act (HB 495 and SB 392), and what to do today.

I’m not going to sugarcoat it. Last night wasn’t a blue tsunami, it was a political nuclear bomb that went off across America, and Ohio took a direct hit.

Communist Amy Acton is going to be the next governor of Ohio.

She’s a full-blown gun control advocate who publicly campaigned for Red Flag laws, statewide gun registration, the whole agenda.

And from the day she’s sworn in on January 11, she’ll veto every pro-gun bill that reaches her desk. Every single day of the week.

But before we fight that fight, we’ve got another one right in front of us and I need all hands on deck to help win it.

Right now Mike DeWine is still governor, and we have a matter of weeks to pass the Freedom to Carry Act (FTCA).

We are now in lame duck session, the window between now and the day Acton takes the oath. Republicans still run the Statehouse, still have their supermajority, and SO FAR DeWine has signed every gun bill we’ve put on his desk.

That window slams shut on January 11, so you and I need to get loud demanding the legislature pass HB 495 and SB 392 immediately.

The FTCA gets rid of Ohio’s restrictions on SBRs, suppressors and short-barrel shotguns, it restores the carry age to 18, and then it applies these fixes to Ohio’s transportation laws so that you can actually USE these tools effectively.

Let me be blunt about something else.

Republicans have had every advantage for years: a supermajority, the governor’s office, and the backing of We the People. The Freedom to Carry Act has sat in committee without a hearing since October 2025, and this past June, Republican leadership voted to kill it on the House floor.

They don’t get to blame Amy Acton for that. They screwed up badly, but they also have one last chance to fix that right now.

Committee hearings start this Monday (11/9). Both chambers are scheduled for session on November 10, November 18, December 2 and December 16. I will not be surprised if they add a couple more.

But that’s it. That’s the fight right in front of us that we have to do everything we can to win.

Ohio Gun Owners is pushing for rapid advancement of the FTCA every single session day between now and December 16, and here’s what I need you to do today:

1. Contact your state representative and state senator now:

Waiting around and doing nothing right now just isn’t an option. Contact them immediately.

2. Demand them to pass the Freedom to Carry Act, HB 495 and SB 392, in lame duck. No more excuses.

I need to ask you to contribute financial resources, too. We need to make the Ohio Statehouse a pressure cooker, and that pressure costs money.

STAND WITH OGO

Last night was a gut punch, I won’t pretend it wasn’t. But OGO doesn’t quit, and more than any other political organization in Ohio, a bare-knuckled political fist fight is something we know how to do.

This fight jumpstarted last night.

For freedom,

Chris Dorr

P.S. Commie Acton gets sworn in January 11. Until then, DeWine is still governor and Republicans still have the votes to pass gun bills.

The Ohio Freedom to Carry Act, loaded with legislative fixes on suppressors, SBRs, carry at 18, and transportation upgrades, MUST become law in lame duck.
