Republican politicians in Columbus are coming back into session next week, not for gun bills, but for a ninety-day gas tax suspension. House Bill 495 and Senate Bill 392, the Freedom to Carry Act, are ready to move, so tell your state representative and state senator to pass it while they are in Columbus.
Republican “leadership” in Columbus just announced they are coming back into session next week.
And no, they’re not coming back to pass gun bills, they’re coming back to pass a ninety-day gas tax suspension.
It’s amazing that they suddenly found time to come back to Columbus after telling you they were done until after the election, isn’t it?
It isn’t hard to figure out why.
Diesel hit about seven dollars. Regular gas is crushing people too. We fully support cutting the gas tax, but permanently cutting it would be better than a sugar high that gets the politicians past the elections but which expires right around Christmas, after your vote is already counted.
If they can sprint back when their own necks are on the line, they can walk and chew gum.
House Bill 495 and Senate Bill 392, the Freedom to Carry Act, are sitting at the Statehouse, ready to rock. The bill fixes Ohio law on carry, including suppressors and short-barreled firearms that federal changes already moved, and it brings 18-to-20-year-old rights in line with what federal courts are already saying.
McColley has told us privately he supports it. Vivek told me that privately as well, and the Senate already showed this is not radioactive.
They have the votes. They have the time. They have committees. What they need is pressure from gun owners before they gavel in, pass the gas fix, and disappear again until November.
Tell your state representative and state senator: pass the Freedom to Carry Act while you are in Columbus.
If they want your vote, they can earn it with more than a temporary tax maneuver that gets them safely through their reelections.
